Feature and Follow Friday #2

Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee. This event allows book bloggers to connect and say hi.

It doesn't matter to me how you follow me.  You can follow me on bloglovin', twitter, facebook, RSS, and google+.

Q: Today’s is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

A: I don't really read that many books with wars in them...unless they are space wars. I don't think that really counts, though. Does it? I guess I'll go with 1984. There is war mentioned in the book, but Winston doesn't over throw the government. I think it fits the theme. It was the first dystopian novel I had ever read. I was fifteen and I remember being blown away. Or V for Vendetta by Alan Moore.

  1. 1984 is a great pick, even if Winston does not succeed in his fight against Big Brother:)

  5. Minus the "preachy" chapter at the end of 1984, it truly is an amazing book. What scares me, though, is how so many things in that book have actually comes into reality. We have "newspeech" with LOL, BFF, and other sayings. We have cameras everywhere. People DO disappear and are questioned/seized without warrants with the Patriot Act.

Well, enough of the depressing stuff. Can't wait to check out what other suggestions you have. New follower.

  6. If you enjoy dystopian novels, which I am assuming you do :] then 1984 is a must read. Never Let Me Go is okay, as well as The Handmaiden's Tale. Those don't beat 1984, though in my opinion.
