Outlander Season 1 Ep. 1 Review

Outlander is a television show on Starz based on the novel of the same name by Diana Gabaldon.  It focuses on Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) in 1945 as she is transported back in time to 1743 while on a second honeymoon with her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies) in Scotland.  I own the book, but I haven't read it just yet so all my opinions will be on the television show itself.  My first impression is that the show looks gorgeous.  It is shot beautifully and the Scottish landscape is breathtaking.  Unfortunately, that is all I have positive to say about the show as of right now.  The first 30 minutes are very boring as we follow Claire and Frank reconnect in Scotland.  I hope that the sex scenes get a little more steamy. Right now they are a bit of a snooze fest.  I'm assuming the sex scenes w/ Jamie will be better.  I did enjoy the pagan ceremony, that was quite beautiful.  The show picks up once Claire goes back in time and meets Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).  I am definitely a sucker for a man in a kilt and the actor playing Jamie is very easy on the eyes.  Over all, I am not that invested in the show, but I will give it at least two more episodes to pick it up.  After that, I might just choose to watch something else or even read the book.

Rating 5/10
