15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 12

The 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge is hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 12: How do you fight blogger fatigue?

A: COFFEE! Coffee is the answer for everything. Or if  I'm feeling classy or British then I'll have some tea. Pinky up, of course. Sometimes I'll put on some really bad pop music from the 90's and early 2000's and just dance around for ten minutes. That usually gets my brain juices flowing. You know what I'm sayin'?

If the dancing and coffee don't work then I'll just sit down and remind myself why I started this blog. I usually find some kind of motivation still in me. Luckily, I'm still in the honeymoon phase. My blog isn't that old so normally I can't wait to blog.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 11

The 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge is hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 11: Show off 5 of your blog posts!

1. My very first post EVER was a review of Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane. That was a month and five days ago. I can't believe it has only been a month since I started blogging. Anyways, I think my reviews are starting to evolve. I"m much more focused when I read now. I take notes. This helps me write better reviews. So check out my first post ever. Don't laugh!

2. One of my favorite reads of 2013 is Horns by Joe Hill. It is fantastic. Check out my review here.

3. I've only done one movie review, but I want to do more. I love weird, what the hell movies. If you're into that too then here is my review for Beyond the Black Rainbow

4.  Like comic books? Me too! Check out some of my favorites.

5. Another favorite read of mine is The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi. It was the second book I reviewed.

Okay, so there you have it. I hope you find something you like.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 10

The 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge is hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 10: How do you choose what book to read next?

I choose books a lot of different ways. I belong to a few groups on Goodreads. Sometimes I'll read the books the group is reading. Sometimes I'll look at lists on the website and choose a book I find interesting. I also read reviews posted by other bloggers. If they recommend that book then I'll check it out. Recommendations help a lot. Now that I'm starting to receive eARCs, I've been using release dates to help choose which books I read next. Books with the closest release dates move up on my reading list!

On a different note, I've decided to stop reading Moon Called. I just can't seem to get into it right now. I plan on finishing it, but I want to wait until I'm in a more urban fantasy mood. So, on to The Inevitable!

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 8

Day 8: Quick! Write 15 bullet points of things that appeal to you on blogs!

  • GIFS! yay! Love me some gifs.
  • good humor
  •  beautiful templates. I see all these gorgeous templates and they make me full of envy!
  • I like it when bloggers post other things than just book reviews.
  • book reading challenges. I just started two this year and I must say I enjoy them.
  • helpful bloggers. When starting out, it was a little bit overwhelming. I didn't know where to begin or how to gain followers. Luckily, I found a few people to give me great advice.
  • eARCS!
  • meeting new people. In my "real" life, I don't have many people to talk to about comics or science fiction books or any other geekiness. I have met some cool people through this blog that share similar interests.
  • Writing reviews. I never thought in a million years I would enjoy writing reviews, but I do. It helps me remember the book better too.
  • my followers. It is pretty cool that people would actually care enough to read what I have to say. Still bewilders me.
  • Having authors contact me! It is so crazy to look in my email and see I have an email from an author. I'm like "You want to talk to me?!"
  •  I love hearing other people's opinions on books. It helps me see the book in a different way.
  •  giveaways! I am addicted to them. Maybe I will host one some day.
  • Author interviews
  •  discovering new books

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 7

the 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge is an event hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 7: Talk about your blogging quirks.

I love Gifs. I have a gif for almost every situation. I just think they make everything funnier. Hmm..what else. I often come off as more excited than I really am. I use a lot of exclamation points. I'll go back and read something I wrote and think I sound way too hyper or enthusiastic. A Cheerleader on uppers comes to mind. I guess I don't have the knack for conveying enthusiasm without the crazy. That's all the quirks I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more but I'm probably in denial.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 6

The 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge is hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 6: Describe how you shop for books.

Hunting for books is one of my favorite activities. Before I head to the bookstore, I write down about five books I want to buy. I first get coffee to go and then head into the store. I work my way through the list. Most of the time, my bookstore will only have one or two of the books I'm looking for so I have to improvise and find other books. Then I head over to the bargain rack and see if there are any books I want on sale. If I can't find the book I'm looking for in the store then I'll buy it online.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 5

The 15 Book Blogging Challenge is hosted by Good Books and Good Wine.

Day 5: Recommend a tear jerker.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help. As I stated in my confessions post, the only time I've ever cried because of a book was when I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and that was because I was sad it was over. I have read sad books, but none of them have ever made me cry. I wish I could find a book that will make me cry. That should be one of my book challenges this year.

15 Day Book Blogging Challenge: Day 2

Day 2: What is your bedtime reading ritual?

My favorite time to read is at night. I find there is less to distract me and it is so much more quiet! Normally, I hop into bed around 9:30 with my book. I have my cup of peppermint tea. I'll read until I'm about to pass out. Then I'll turn on one of my favorite shows like Doctor Who or Firefly and fall asleep to that. This often leads to me dreaming about space adventure with The Doctor or Captain Mal, but who could complain about that? Certainly not this companion...I mean girl.

If you want to participate then head over to Good Books and Good Wine and add your name to the list!

15 Day Book Blogging Challenge: Day 1

I am jumping on the bandwagon and participating in Good Books and Good Wine's 15 Day Book Blogging Challenge. Alright, here I go. Day 1!

Make 15 Book Related Confessions

1) I didn't start reading comic books until 2011! I went to my local comic book store to buy Magic: The Gathering packs and I saw the first issue of Scott Snyder's Swamp Thing. I saw the cover by Yanick Paquette and it was like meeting the man of my dreams in a crowded room. I knew it was meant to be.
2) I've hardly read any of the "classics" that were required reading in school. I was always busy reading other books! Luckily, high school wasn't that difficult and I could manage bullshitting my way though papers.

3)  Somewhere on the internet is a Draco and Luna Lovegood fan fiction that I wrote when I was about 14 years old...It is the best piece of fiction you will ever read. If only I could find it again.

4) Most of the time I create a completely different image of the characters in my head. It really doesn't matter how the writer describes them. My brain just refuses to see them that way.

5) I actually like reading on my tablet. I refused to do it for about a year and then I gave in. My favorite thing about reading a book on my tablet is that I can highlight a word I don't know and the definition will come up. BAM! Instant knowledge into my brain.

6) Most of the time I feel insecure about my reviews. I think they're not long enough or not smart enough.

7) I get really annoyed when people dress up as a comic book character just because the outfit is sexy and not because they actually like the comic.

8) The only time I have ever cried because of a book is when I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I was so sad that it was over!

9) I yell profanities when I'm reading and something crazy/unexpected/dramatic happens. This can be a problem if I'm reading in public.

10) My favorite time to read is at night. I like to curl up in a blanket and read until I pass out.

11) I have recently added "does not read" to my deal breaker list. If I meet a guy and he doesn't read then I probably won't date him.

12) I have a really bad habit of losing books.

13) I can't read more than one book at a time. I just don't have the attention span.

14) I feel really sad when people say they don't like science fiction or that it is stupid.

15) I own more comic books than novels. Don't judge me.
