Saturday Haul

Hey guys, here is this week's haul. Bought a lot of nostaligc anime. The more I watch Tenchi Muyo the more the feminist in me cringes. However, I can't help but love Ryoko and therefore this show will have a place in my heart...even if it is cringe worth at points. Anyways, on to the haul!

X-Men: Days of Futures Past: Awesome movie. I saw it in theaters and I was blown away. James McAvoy gives a beautiful performance as Charles Xavier. Check it out if you haven't already!

Princess Mononoke: I am slowly buying all of Hayao Miyazaki's movies. They are beautiful and female friendly which is very difficult to find in the world of anime.

Tenchi In Tokyo: This is the third installment in the Tenchi Muyo! anime series. It isn't my favorite, but I still wanted to add it to my collection. Ryoko forever <333 span="">

The Wicked + Divine #1, #2 from Image Comics. By Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie.  I've alread read the digital issues of these comics and they are awesome! One of my new favorite series to come out.

Trees #6 from Image Comics. Warren Ellis and Jason Howard. Decent series that I'll continue to check out for now.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1 from Archie Comics. If you like Afterlife with Archie then check this one out too!

Supreme Blue Rose #4 from Image Comics by Warren Ellis and Tula Latoy.
Revival Vol. 1: You're Among Friends from Image Comics by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Robert Hack

Saturday Haul!

I apologize for not posting in a few weeks. Everything has been crazy in my house. I went on vacation to the wonderful Dragon*Con here in Atlanta. My boyfriend and I had a great time. I was going to cosplay as Ginny from Pretty Deadly, but that didn't work out. So, I just walked around as my own persona but wore pony ears and wings.

This week was a huge haul.  I normally never get this much, but it was great to splurge.  So here is the list of awesome things. I am going to be super busy today!!

Hexed #1 by Michael Alan Nelson and Dan Mora. Published by Boom! Studios

Luci Jennifer Inacio Das Neves (most people just call her “Lucifer”) is a supernatural thief-for-hire, stealing wondrous objects from the dark denizens of the netherworld for her mentor/mother figure, Val Brisendine. But when Lucifer accidentally unleashes a terrible evil from one of the paintings hanging in Val’s art gallery, will any of the tricks up her sleeve be enough to stop it?
Look at that awesome cover by Emma Rios!

She-Hulk # 8 by  Charles Soule and Javier Pulido. Published by Marvel.

She-Hulk takes on a new client: CAPTAIN AMERICA! Meanwhile, Patsy does a little digging on the Blue File

If you've been reading my blog, then you know how much I love the new She-Hulk comic. I'm so proud of Marvel for writing this book and I hope it continues to be good!

Death of Wolverine (1 of 4) by Charles Soule, Steve McNiven. Published by Marvel.

The beginning of the end is now here … THE DEATH OF WOLVERINE!  THREE MONTHS TO DIE, the loss of Wolverine’s healing factor--all led to this, the single most important X-Men event of the decade. Logan has spent over a century being the best there is at what he does...but even the best fade away eventually. •Over the years, Logan has been a warrior, a hero, a renegade, a samurai, a teacher—and so much more. But now, the greatest X-Men hero will play a role he’s never played before in this special weekly event brought to you by industry superstars Charles Soule and Steve McNiven.

So, I wasn't going to buy this book. I thought it was kind of dumb to kill Wolverine and it smelled of a cash grab to me...but I'm weak and decided to buy it because I saw that Charles Soule was writing it and he writes She-Hulk. Don't judge me!

Rocket Raccoon by Skottie Young Published by Marvel

Everyone’s favorite pistol-packin’ procyon* finally finds himself face-to-face with the intergalactic imposter.  It’s macho ado about everything as Macho Gomez guest-stars and the Ex-Terminators are hot on Rocket’s tail! *Procyon is the scientific term for raccoon, obviously.

The Woods # 5 by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas. Published by Boom! Studios

Jumping-on issue! Following last issue’s harrowing revelations, we catch a glimpse of Bay Point Preparatory High School before the fateful events of October 16, 2013 in this new story arc. On opening night of the school’s rendition of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the lives of the students and faculty crossed paths in an almost premonitory way, seeding the various horrors to come.

So, I have The Woods #1-4 but I haven't read them yet. They make up the first paperback for this series so be expecting a review soon. If you want to start this series then, as the description above says, this is the issue to start reading.

Lumberjanes # 5 by Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson and Brooke Allen. Published by Boom! Studios

Archery is a vital skill for any Lumberjane-it teaches balance and precision, which these scouts are definitely going to need with the Bear Woman back! The Lumberjanes are on a chase through the woods and it might be time for some answers...as long as they don't lose anyone on the way...
Black Widow #10 by Nathan Edmonson and Phil Noto. Published by Marvel Comics

Because you demanded he shows up in more than just two panels: Black Widow v.s. Hawkeye! Plus, how could their fight cost Isaiah his life?

The Bunker: Volume 1 by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joe Infurnari. Published by Omni Press

On their way to bury a time capsule, five friends - Grady, Heidi, Natasha, Daniel, and Billy - uncover a metal bunker buried deep in the woods. Inside, they discover letters addressed to each of them... from their future selves! Told they will destroy the world in the very near future, the friends find themselves, over the next few days, growing further and further apart. Though they've been warned against making the wrong choices, how do they know what the right ones are? Can the future really be changed, or will an even darker fate engulf the world? Collects the first four issues of the The Bunker ongoing series.

This book sounds very interesting and the art is great! Can't wait to read it and post a review.

His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1) by Naomi Novik. Published by Del Rey.

Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors ride mighty fighting dragons, bred for size or speed. When HMS Reliant captures a French frigate and seizes the precious cargo, an unhatched dragon egg, fate sweeps Captain Will Laurence from his seafaring life into an uncertain future – and an unexpected kinship with a most extraordinary creature.

Thrust into the rarified world of the Aerial Corps as master of the dragon Temeraire, he will face a crash course in the daring tactics of airborne battle. For as France’s own dragon-borne forces rally to breach British soil in Bonaparte’s boldest gambit, Laurence and Temeraire must soar into their own baptism of fire.

I was at the Sword and Laser live podcast at Dragon Con and Naomi Novik was there as the special guest. I have never heard of Naomi Novik before and she was such a cool lady and very passionate about writing and dragons! I can't wait to read this series.

We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lynne Ramsay

Kevin's mother struggles to love her strange child, despite the increasingly vicious things he says and does as he grows up. But Kevin is just getting started, and his final act will be beyond anything anyone imagined.

I am a big fan of Tilda Swinton.  I think she is a great actress and I will watch any movie she is in.  I'm also a fan of Ezra Miller after seeing Perks of Being a Wallflower. I think he is an actor to watch. Anyways, I've wanted to see this movie since it came out a few years ago, but I just never got around it it. I've heard it is a haunting movie and I can't wait to see it!

The Raid: Redemption by Gareth Evans

A S.W.A.T. team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs.

I have heard nothing but amazing things about this movie so it should be kick ass.

Okay guys, that's it! Sheesh, that took FOREVER to write. I'm off to read and write some more reviews so keep a look out. Thanks for stopping by!! I'll leave you with some photos from Dragon Con!

Saturday Haul!

So, I haven't posted in a little while.  I've been trying to find time to finish my Raymond Feist's Magician: Apprentice so I can put up a book review, but shit happens. Instead, I wound up just doing nothing! Anyways, this week was a fairly good haul. Got some great comics and some new books so check them out below!

Filth
Directed by: Jon S. Baird
Starring: James McAvoy, Jamie Bell, Eddie Marsen

A corrupt cop manipulates and hallucinates his way through a bid to secure a promotion and win back his wife and daughter.

The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. He's a senior in high school, and a certifiable genius, but he's still secretly obsessed with a series of fantasy novels he read as a kid, about the adventures of five children in a magical land called Fillory. Compared to that, anything in his real life just seems gray and colorless.
Everything changes when Quentin finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the practice of modern sorcery. He also discovers all the other things people learn in college: friendship, love, sex, booze, and boredom. But something is still missing. Magic doesn't bring Quentin the happiness and adventure he though it would.
Then, after graduation, he and his friends make a stunning discovery: Fillory is real.
A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent written by Marie Brennan
All the world, from Scirland to the farthest reaches of Eriga, know Isabella, Lady Trent, to be the world’s preeminent dragon naturalist. She is the remarkable woman who brought the study of dragons out of the misty shadows of myth and misunderstanding into the clear light of modern science. But before she became the illustrious figure we know today, there was a bookish young woman whose passion for learning, natural history, and, yes, dragons defied the stifling conventions of her day.

Here at last, in her own words, is the true story of a pioneering spirit who risked her reputation, her prospects, and her fragile flesh and bone to satisfy her scientific curiosity; of how she sought true love and happiness despite her lamentable eccentricities; and of her thrilling expedition to the perilous mountains of Vystrana, where she made the first of many historic discoveries that would change the world forever.

Marie Brennan introduces an enchanting new world in A Natural History of Dragons.

The Wicked + Divine #3, Story by Kieron Gillen and Art by Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson. Image Comics.

Laura has no choice. She has to go underground to find the goth-goth-gothity-goth of the Morrigan. Is this the most illadvised underworld-related decision since Orpheus decided to see how Eurydice was doing in the back seat?

Trees #4 by Warren Ellis and Jason Howard. Image Comics.

Chenglei is starting to find himself in Shu, the Chinese city built under a Tree: but things are starting to find him, too. There's a storm coming, and the pressure is starting to be felt all over the world.

Supreme Blue Rose #2 by Warren Ellis and Tula Lotay. Iimage Comics.

Diana Dane is being transported by Darius Dax in the hunt for the mysterious Ethan Crane. It's a car ride that takes her a lot further than she expects: out into the nature of the universe itself.

Batwoman #34 by Marc Andreyko, Jeremy Huan. Cover by Rafael Albuquerque. DC Comics

This issue changes everything! Batwoman must make a choice that Maggie's not willing to make! And where does Nocturna fit into all of this?

Okay, so pretty productive haul this week. I'm pretty excited about the two books I picked up. I've heard good things about both. I need to pick up the reading pace though...which seems unlikely because I start school next week AND it's also Dragon*Con weekend! BEST WEEKEND EVER!

This week my pull list was very Image friendly. I love Image. They're probably producing my favorite books at the moment and I am always looking for new books from them. I trust them to create good content (most of the time!). I have two Warren Ellis books too. I enjoy him as a writer and look forward to both of these books continuing! And finally, I'm getting back into Batwoman. It is one of the first series I started reading when I first got into comics. I just kind of left it behind, and not because it wasn't good. It was an okay book with GREAT art. I just never got around to adding it to my pull list. Well, I'm giving her another chance. It's a random issue to start with, but I'll catch. No worries.

I promise I'll put up some reviews!! And for those of you watching the season premiere of Doctor Who tonight, DO NOT spoil anything for me! I'm waiting to see it on Monday in the movie theater! I'll probably be avoiding all social media for a little while until then. *puts fingers in ear*
